Nikon D300, 24-70/f2.8 AF-S, 1/400 @ F2.8, ISO 1100
I’ve been shooting with an NPS loaner 24-70 for the past two weeks, and really like it. It’s not revolutionary in terms of sharpness or contrast on a DX body, but the AF-S drive is very nice – more in line with the AF-S in the 80-200/f2.8 and much faster than the AF-S or HSM motors in the other lenses in my stable, including the new Nikon 50/f1.4G.
This is the end of a play featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter highlights of the game later that night. If you look closely, you can even see Sports Photo Guy sitting under the basket along the baseline.

Hmmm, loss of a stop of light. Did you get more keepers than with your 30 and 50 mm f1/4s?

Most definitely. Nothing beats the AF-S on Nikon’s pro-caliber lenses.

Glad I only spent $200 on my 50 mm f/1.4D. I will have to upgrade to this. But the 70-200 f/2.8 AF-S and TC-14E enter my bag first (next month).
